2017-2018 schedule has been updated!
On Saturday December 9th the Whippet Wrestling Team traveled to Cumberland Valley High School to participate in the Kickoff Classic for the 6th year in a row. This year we had our best finish since participating in the tournament with the team score landing us in 6th place. The Kickoff Classic is always a tough tournament and one we look forward to each year.
Matt Wolf, a Freshman, got his first official action as a Whippet at 120. Our Sophomore class also saw good competition throughout the tournament. At 145, Kane Hayford, ended the day with one win and at 160, Pat Cusack was only one win away from placing. Two other Sophomore Whippets ended the day on the podium with Third place medals; Chase Mielnik at 170 and Max Hale at 182. For our Junior class, Harry Synder saw action at 195. The Senior class also had a great tournament. Marco Cardi (113) and Chase Hanak (132) each finished the day with 1 win, along with Gavin Hale (152) who earned himself 2 wins. Rounding out the senior class was Jesse Cook (285) with a third-place finish, Doug Zapf (126) with a second-place finish, and Nick Lilley (138) on top of the podium, earning himself a gold medal.
The JV team also saw action at the Kickoff Classic. Ethan Niemeyer and Jake DiGiamberardino each earned themselves 3 wins and Mitchell Byers and Connor Smith ended the day each earning 2 wins. The rest of the JV team; Matt Barrett, Owen Dougherty, Jack Duffy, Ryan Gallagher, Dan Lilley, Damian Marx, Justin McDowell, Matt Micale, and Aidan Nash all wrestled very well and most of them earning themselves a win on the day.
Both JV and Varsity will be wrestling next Saturday, 12/16/17, at the Comet Classic which is held at Penn Manor High School.

Doug Zapf wins State Title!
Mar. 12, 2017 — Using a 5-2 decision over Shaler’s Ryan Sullivan, Zapf became West’s first state champion, capping a dream season for the junior lightweight, Saturday at the Giant Center.
“I can’t even put it into words,” Zapf said. “How hard I worked for this and how much I overcame to get here, it’s amazing.”
“It’s great,” West coach Brad Breese said. “I’m elated for him. Watching him win that title and thinking back on days when he couldn’t beat guys like that. He would take it so hard. He’d sit in the corner and say everything he worked for was gone, but he didn’t realize everything he worked for was still ahead of him.”
