Whippets finish 8th in season opener
The Whippets opened the 2013-2014 season at the Cumberland Valley Kick-Off Classic with an 8th place finish. The 16-team field featured multiple state medalists and some of the top teams in Pennsylvania. Leading the way for the Whippets were seniors Troy Smith (106 lb 3rd place finish) and Tristan Reynolds (132 lb 4th place finish). Also placing for WEST were Joe Rennie (4th place 113), Dante Angelini (5th place 120) and Manoa Taniguchi (6th place 152). Leading the way for the Whippets in the JV tournament were freshmen Gio Angelini (4-0), Cole Zapf (3-1) and Max DiSanto (4-1). The Whippets will return to action on Saturday December 14 as they travel to Exeter to defend their back-to-back TEAM titles. Action at Exeter starts at 9 am.
Whippets release 2013-2014 schedule
The 2013-2014 Downingtown WEST Wrestling schedule has been finalized. Your Whippet Wrestling TEAM is training hard and looks to build off of a successful 2012-2013 campaign, in which they finished with an overall record of 23-8, runner-up finishes in both the Ches-mont League and Ches-mont League tournament, produced 10 District 1 Qualifiers and 4 SE Regional Qualifiers. Big things are on the horizon for this group; don’t miss your chance to be a part of the movement!
The Whippets will once again kick the season off at the ultra challenging Cumberland Valley Kick-off Classic on Friday December 6 and Saturday December 7. On Saturday December 14, WEST will return to Exeter High School, as the two-time defending champions to compete in the Exeter Duals. The Ches-mont league duals will open up at home this year on Wednesday December 18, as the Whippets host cross-town rival Downingtown East. WEST will close out 2013 as they travel to Bloomsburg University to compete in the Bob Rohm Duals Saturday December 28.
The Whippets will open 2014 on the road in a league dual against Avon Grove. The remaining league duals include Coatesville (1/8/2014) and W.C. Henderson (1/22/2014) both of which will be on the road and W.C. East (1/29/2014) in the Wagner Gym at Downingtown High School WEST Campus. The Whippets will host two non-league duals in 2014 in Ridley High School (1/10/2014) and Pottstown High School (1/16/2014). WEST will once again compete in the Parkland Duals on Saturday January 4 and the Bellefonte Red Raider Duals on Saturday January 18. Both dual tournaments feature top ranked teams from the state of PA. The PIAA TEAM post-season will kick-off with the District 1 Duals 1st round on Thursday January 23 and the finals scheduled for January 31 and February 1. The top four teams in District One will qualify for the PIAA TEAM Championships in Hershey.
The individual post-season and the road to Hershey will begin in 2014 with the Ches-mont League Tournament on Saturday February 15 at W.C. Rustin High School, followed by the District 1 Tournament at Oxford High School on Saturday February 22. The S.E. Regional Tournament is slated to be on February 28 and March 1 at Pottstown High School. The top three finishers at the S.E. Tournament will qualify to compete in the PIAA Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey March 6th, March 7th and March 8th.
