Downingtown West Girls Wrestling: A Strong Start to the Season

Our girls wrestling team has kicked off the season with grit, determination, and plenty to celebrate! With a roster full of freshmen and one veteran leader, junior Sarah Pearson, these athletes are making their mark at some of the toughest tournaments in the region. Every match is a chance to learn, grow, and represent Downingtown West with pride.

Escape the Rock (Dec 13–14)

One of Pennsylvania’s premier events, Escape the Rock gave our team an early test against elite competition.

  • Sarah Pearson battled her way to a 2nd place finish (3–1).

  • Layla Namerow (2–1), Avery Dunn (2–2), Chloe Gahr (1–2), Maddie O’Brien (1–2), and Samantha Roworth (1–2) all picked up wins and valuable experience.

  • Maeve Thomas rounded out the lineup, showing toughness in her matches.

Beast of the East (University of Delaware)

This is one of the biggest tournaments in the Eastern U.S., and our girls stepped onto the mat ready to compete.

  • Sarah Pearson shined again, finishing 4th with a 5–2 record.

  • Chloe Gahr, Maeve Thomas, and Avery Dunn represented Downingtown West proudly in this elite field.

New Year Rumble (Penn Manor HS)

The team closed out 2025 and rang in the new year with a strong showing at Penn Manor.

  • Sarah Pearson dominated with four falls to claim the championship (4–0)!

  • Avery Dunn went 5–1, earning 5th place after a default due to PIAA match limits.

  • Chloe Gahr, Maddie O’Brien, Maeve Thomas, and Samantha Roworth all battled hard and gained valuable mat time.

Looking Ahead

With so many new faces and a season full of opportunities ahead, we couldn’t be prouder of this group. Every tournament brings growth, and every match shows the heart of our team. Congratulations to all our wrestlers for their effort and accomplishments so far—more exciting moments to come!
